About Us
Systematizing Armenia's Microbiome Heritage
A scientific initiative launched by the Armenian National Academy of Sciences together with biotechnology company Vitaway LLC to systematize, disseminate, and promote the knowledge accumulated over decades about Armenia's national heritage in the form of beneficial bacterial strains.
The Narine Academy brings together and rewards professors, physicians, naturopaths, and specialists who share their experience with the therapeutic use of the Narine, Karine, and Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 bacteria — through reviews, lectures, webinars, and more. Chaired by Armenian microbiologist Dr. Eduard Dilanyan, the rapidly growing Academy Council is a place to find research conducted with these bacteria, as well as the stories of people who regained their health and quality of life thanks to them.

History
From 1960s Yerevan to a Global Council
The first, unofficial meetings of the Narine Academy took place in the 1960s in Yerevan, where scientists and enthusiasts gathered around Professor Levon Akopovich Erzinkyan, the discoverer of Narine, to share observations about the bacterium. As political events led many scientists to leave Armenia for France, Canada, the USA, and Japan, they continued their research abroad. Together with the Armenian National Academy of Sciences they established the Narine Academy to unite scientists, students, physicians, and naturopaths who use and promote these strains. Today the Academy organizes meetings and conferences where specialists exchange observations and medical innovations — opening new opportunities to help people struggling with chronic ailments.
